History Studies / Volume 6 Issue 2 / February 2014

In this issue, the Turks in Greece but particularly in Western Thrace are analysed from a historical perspective. The Northern-part of the Greek mainland is the main interest area of the study and it provides many examples about coexistence which can be seen in many cities around the Balkans under Ottoman rule. We also witnessed how the idea of coexistence disappeared during the end of Ottoman era as result of nationalism in modern times. Following the announcement, the special issue entitled “From Past to Present: Turks in Greece” received a huge number of articles but nine of them were found publishable according to the referees comments. Additionally, the issue includes three book reviews as well. In this context, I would like to thank Sebahattin Abdurrahman, Bülent Atalay, Galip Çağ, Fatih Demirel, Nilüfer Erdem, Mustafa Gencer, Melike Kara, Haşim Koç, Telli Korkmaz, Tuncay Erdem Sepetçioğlu, İbrahim Şirin ve Bülent Yıldırım who made it possible for this issue to be published with their contributions.
