A Study on the Military Collapse of Persians

Persian empire entered into a period of enormously rise and expansion in the time of the early kings (Cyrus the Great, Cambyses, Darius I). Militarily strong Persians became a great empire of the ancient world from Europe to Asia, from Mesopotamia to Egypt. But when they came up against the "western world", things didn´t go as well as required. Especially the Greek wars (480-79 BC) of the Xerxes period, resulted in unexpectedly a defeat of the Persians, despite battle preparations for years. Nevertheless, the empire was still an influental state. However, the rebellions towards the end of the century, especially the revolt of Young Cyrus, began to change the perceptions on Persians powerfulness. In 371 BC, struggle between king Epaminondas of Thebai and Spartans brought new strategies that would lead to defeat of Persians in military history. King Philippus II of Macedon also learned and practiced these strategies. Due to the death of Philippus II who was getting ready for war against Persians, this plan was putt off. Alexander the Great who continued his father´s plans defeated Persians in Granicus, Issus, Gaugamela by improving tactics and strategies learned from his father, and became the king of Asia.
