Çanakkale Muharebelerine Dair Gayriresmi Yeni Bir Belge: "HÂTIRÂT-I ESÂRET"

I. Dünya Savaşı´nda (1914-1918) İtilaf Devletleri, özellikle İngiltere, savaş esirleri için dünyanın birçok yerinde esir kampları kurmuşlardı.

A New Unofficial Document Related to the Wars of Dardanelles: "MEMOIRS OF CAPTIVITY / HÂTIRÂT-I ESÂRET"

During the World War I (1914-1918) the Powers of Entente, especially Great Britan established camps for war prisoners in many places all over the world. One of them was openned for the Turkish captives in the Karaol Region of Famagusta in Cyprus under the name of "Camp for the Turkish Prisoners of War / Türk Üserâ Karârgâhı". The introduction of Hâtırât-ı Esâret written by some of those Ottoman-Turkish soldiers who stayed in the camp cited above during the period, is to be the subject matter of this article. "Hâtırât-ı Esâret" belonged to the Turkish soldiers most of who were to be taken prisoner during the wars of Dardanalles, has importance for the history of the period. The document in our hands, according to the results of our investigations, appears to be the first in this field because of the fact that it was a kind of war diary unofficially kept by some of the Turkish soldiers who took part in the wars and were held to be war captive, during their captivity and under very bad conditions. As an original document Hâtırât-ı Esâret sheds lights from different angles onto an important period of the Turkish history.
