AN ARAB EMIRATE RULE IN BATĪHA IN THE 10TH CENTURY: SHAHĪNĪDS

It covers a large marshy area in the lower part of the al-Batīha, Euphrates and Tigris rivers. The first improvement activities of the region, which was formed before ancient times, started in the Sassanid period. Although the Umayyads carried out serious work to drain the swamp, the abandonment of this policy during the Abbasid period caused the swamps to expand again. The increase in reed beds and reed beds made the region a center where bandits took shelter. The al-Zutt, Zanjī and Karmatī revolts that took place in the 3th (9th) century weakened the authority of the Abbasids in the region. Increasing his influence in such an environment, Imran b. Shahin established an emirate in Batīha that would last for half a century. In this study, the primary sources of the period and modern studies will be examined and the emergence process of the Shahinids Emirate and its relationship with the Abbasids and Buyids will be examined.

Batîha, Fırat ve Dicle nehirlerinin aşağı kısmında geniş bir bataklık alanı kaplamaktadır. Antik Çağlardan önce oluşan bölgenin ilk ıslah faaliyetleri Sâsânîler devrinde başlamıştır. Emevîler, bataklığın kurutulması için ciddi bir çalışma yürüttüyse de Abbâsîler zamanında bu politikanın terk edilmesi bataklıkların yeniden genişlemesine neden olmuştur. Kamışlık ve sazlıkların artması bölgeyi eşkıyanın sığındığı bir merkez hâline getirdi. 3. (9.) yüzyılda meydana gelen Zut, Zencî ve Karmatî isyanları Abbâsîlerin bölgedeki otoritesini zayıflattı. Böyle bir ortamda nüfuzunu artıran İmrân b. Şâhîn Batîha’da yaklaşık yarım asır sürecek bir emîrlik kurdu. Bu çalışmada dönemin ana kaynakları ve modern çalışmalar tetkik edilerek Şâhînî Emîrliği’nin ortaya çıkış süreci ve emîrliğin Abbâsîler ve Büveyhîler ile ilişkisi incelenecektir.
