Reflections of Atatürk´s Death on the German Newspapers

Turkish-German relations entered a period of stagnation for a while due to the defeat of the German Empire in World War I. The Germans were kept away from world politics because of the binding provisions of the Versailles Peace Treaty. After the relaunch of mutual relations the German press closely started to follow developments in Turkey. German press of that time gave much place to the current developments in Turkey. With Adolf Hitler coming to the power, mutual relations that rose again between the two countries and the outstanding events found itself reflection in the German press. In this respect, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's death in November 10, 1938 was one of the most outstanding events in Turkey in this period. As a matter of fact, besides being welcomed with a great sadness in the country, it is seen in the news of foreign newspapers which has also caused a great echo in the world. This article examines the echo caused after Atatürk´s death in the German press by looking at the current news which was generally about Atatürk's life, his military successes, his revolutions, and basically his funeral. Therefore, in these article local and national German newspapers were scanned and related news was used. In this regard, related newspapers are listed as follows; Berliner İllustrierte, Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger, Berliner Tageblatt und Handels-Zeitung, Berliner Volks-Zeitung, Das 12 Uhr Blatt, Der Angriff, Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten, Germania, Hamburger Fremdenblatt, Kölnische Volkszeitung, Kölnische Zeitung, Märkische Volks-Zeitung, Morgenpost, Münchner Neueste Nachrichten, National Zeitung, Neue Freie Presse, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Pommersche Zeitung, Reichsoffizierblatt, Rheinische Landeszeitung, Türkische Post, Völkischer Beobachter and Weltdeutscher Beobachter.

Atatürk'ün Ölümünün Alman Basınına Yansımaları

Alman İmparatorluğu´nun I. Dünya Savaşı´ndan yenilgiyle ayrılması Türk-Alman ilişkilerini bir süre duraklama dönemine sokmuştur. Almanlar, Versailles Barış Antlaşması´nın bağlayıcı hükümleri sebebiyle dünya siyasetinden uzaklaştırılmıştır. İlişkilerin tekrar başlamasıyla birlikte Alman basını Türkiye´deki gelişmeleri yakından takip etmeye başlamıştır. Dönemin Alman basınında özellikle Türkiye´de yapılan yeniliklere geniş bir şekilde yer verildiği görülmektedir. Adolf Hitler´in iktidara gelmesiyle birlikte ise iki ülke arasında tekrar yükselişe geçen karşılıklı ilişkiler ve dönemin öne çıkan gelişmeleri Alman basınında yer almaya devam etmiştir. Dolayısıyla dönemin Türkiye´de yaşanan en önemli gelişmelerinden bir de 10 Kasım 1938´de Mustafa Kemal Atatürk´ün ölümüdür. Nitekim yurtta büyük bir üzüntü ile karşılanmasının yanı sıra dünyada da büyük bir yankı uyandırdığı yabancı gazete haberlerinde görülmektedir. Bu çalışma, Atatürk'ün vefatı sonrasında hayatı, askeri başarıları, devrimlerinin yanı sıra cenaze töreni ile ilgili Alman basınındaki haberleri incelemiştir. Yerel ve ulusal olmak üzere Alman gazeteleri bu kapsamda taranarak ilgili haberler kullanılmıştır.
