Authors Guidelines
GENERAL PRINCIPLES
1. The Journal of History Studies (HS) is an international peer-reviewed journal and published in four months as February, May, August, November. Submitted articles are placed in order to complete the referee process.
2. The HS publishes academic articles about History.
3. All submitted articles are reviewed on a double-blind review basis. In case an article receives two reviews with different recommendations, it is sent to a third referee.
4. The HS accepts submissions in Turkish, English, German and French should ideally be between 4,000 and 8,000 words in length, not counting notes, tables, and charts. Quoted or bloc citations shall not be more than 10% of all text, including abstracts, footnotes and sources.
5. Receipt of a submitted manuscript constitutes permission for The HS to publish the contents as edited. The HS neither requests nor pays copyright fees to its authors. The author(s) warrant(s) that
(a) the sole ownership of all rights to all submitted material other than those
(1) permitted under the “fair use” exception,
(2) subject to licensing or use agreements the author has with other holders of intellectual property, and/or
(3) for which the author shares an interest in intellectual property that permits usage in the author’s submission and has full power and authority to make this submission;
(b) the author(s) has/have used reasonable care to ensure that all facts and statements in the submission are true;
(c) the author’s submission does not infringe any copyright, trademark, or any other intellectual property right, nor violate any other proprietary right of any third party;
(d) the author’s submission does not contain any scandalous, libelous, defamatory, obscene, or other unlawful matter, nor violate any third party’s right of privacy or publicity.
The author agrees to defend and indemnify the HS, its officers, agents, and employees and hold them harmless against all claims, suits, costs, losses, damages, and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees, that the HS or its officers, agents, and employees, may sustain by reason of any breach of this warranty. In case authors wish to use their articles published by HS in their future book projects, they are permitted to do so as far as they mention that the work was previously published by HS.
6. The HS publishes only Turkish and English abstracts of articles. The authors must submit a title and abstract which must state the article’s main thesis and summarize its primary contribution to scholarship. The title and abstract may be in Turkish, English, or both. In case an author submits a title and abstract in only one of these languages, the HS will translate the existing abstract to either Turkish or English. Each abstract should be no more than 150 words.
7. Turkish articles should be English summary 10% of all text
8. Authors are required to add three to five key words for indexing in Turkish, English, or both.
9. Because articles are sent to referees for blind review, authors should refrain from including their names, email addresses, institutional information, or any information that may reveal their identity in the text. The HS electronic system can automatically identify the submitter of each article without revealing it to referees. After the peer-review stage is over, the editor will add names and other required information at the publication stage. Please make sure that there is no information that can reveal the writer(s) identity in the text of the article.
10. You can submit your articles by entering your e-mail address and password through the “Submit Manuscript” link on the main page: http://www.historystudies.net (use the drop-down box to select your language preference). You will be notified by email to your registered address when all referee comments are available. You may then review the referee comments through the same link. PLEASE NOTE: because you are allowed to edit the corrections one time only, you must wait until all referees submit their comments before editing your corrections.
11. The articles submitted for publication must not be previously published or under consideration elsewhere. If the submitted article is an unpublished conference or symposium paper, the author/s must clearly indicate that in a footnote.
12. All submitted articles must follow the HS formatting guidelines listed below. Articles that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered for publication.
