From The American Perspective Growing Communism in Syria During The 1957 Crisis (1954-1957)

Syria, with its geopolitical position and a highly strategic prescription, has been a struggle for the great powers who want to dominate the Middle East throughout history. In the First World War, the Syrian territory, which was the subject of negotiations for the imperialist states, broke off from the Ottoman Empire at the end of the war and the process of nationalization in the French mandate that lasted from 1920 to 1946 began. Syria won its full independence by withdrawing French military troops from Syria in 1946, and it has not survived the struggle of international powers. For the imperialist powers such as Britain, America and Russia, the struggle over Syria, which has a strategic precaution that cannot be left to its people, has caused political instability. The instabilities that occurred during the Western-backed Darwinian period allowed the left-leaning political formations to become more and more powerful throughout the country. The anti-Westernism that has been caused by the anger against the exploitation of the countries for years by the Western World has facilitated the work of these forms. The ending of Colonel Edip Çiçekli´s administration in a coup in 1954 opened the way for constitutional order and civilian politics in Syria. In this process, the Baath Party and the socialist and communist parties, which came to the forefront with anti-Westernness, gained strength rapidly. In addition to the increasing communist activities in domestic politics, Syria´s foreign policy has attracted attention to the rapprochement of the Soviet Union, which is in search of comfort in the Middle East. After 1954, the Baath Party nourished by the National Socialist ideology, who had a say in the policy of Syria, had a close relationship with all the leftist groups in the country and the Soviet Union as a reaction to the Soviet-influenced Syrian Communist Party and the Baghdad Pact, He was worried. With the emergence of the Soviet interest in Syria and the Middle East during the Cold War period, the communist movements that could form the basis for Soviet influence in the region have begun to be closely watched by the United States. This work we have done with this study closely followed the region of America, taking into account the foreign correspondence from 1954, until the internationalization of the military and economic benefits of the Soviets to Syria, which turned into an international crime until August 1957 to affect the development of communist movements in Syria factors will be evaluated in all dimensions.
