Educational Status in Rize (1923-1980)

The purpose of this article is to reveal the educational status of Rize between 1923-1980 with numerical data. Historical method was adopted in the research and document analysis was used as data collection technique. The number of teachers, students and schools of primary, secondary and high school institutions in Rize was determined and vocational education and higher education institutions were evaluated. There were 35 boys´, 1 girls´ primary school and 1 one circuit boys´ high school in the 1923-1924 academic year in Rize. A circuit high school was turned into a secondary school in 1924. After this date, high school was encountered again in 1951-1952 academic year in Rize. In the 1979-1980 academic year, the number of schools in primary schools was 450, students was 53503, teachers was 2145; the number of schools in secondary schools was 39, students was 10042, teachers was 250; the number of schools at the high school level was 9, students was 4907 and teachers was 178. It was understood that these numbers increased between 1923 and 1980, but this increase was not stable over the years. For vocational education The Evening Girl Art School was established in 1944, the Master Building School in 1944-1945 and Male Art Institute were established in 1945 in Rize. In the 1979-1980 academic year the number of vocational and technical schools was 22, the number of teachers was 238, and the number of students was 5760. Technician School, Rize Vocational High School and Educational Institute were opened in the field of higher education in Rize.

Bu makalenin amacı 1923-1980 yılları arasında Rize´nin eğitim durumunu sayısal verilerle ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmada tarihsel yöntem benimsenmiş olup veri toplama tekniği olarak doküman incelemesi kullanılmıştır. Rize il geneli ilkokul, ortaokul, lise kurumlarının öğretmen, öğrenci ve okul sayıları tespit edilerek mesleki eğitim ve yükseköğretim kurumları değerlendirilmiştir. Rize il genelinde 1923-1924 ders yılında 35 erkek, 1 kız ilkokulu ve 1 adet bir devreli erkek lisesi söz konusudur. Bir devreli lise 1924 yılında ortaokul haline getirilmiştir. Bu tarihten sonra Rize ili genelinde lise kurumuna tekrar 1951-1952 öğretim yılında rastlanmıştır. 1979-1980 ders yılına gelindiğinde ilkokul düzeyinde 450 okul, 53503 öğrenci, 2145 öğretmen; ortaokul düzeyinde 39 okul, 10042 öğrenci, 250 öğretmen; lise düzeyinde 9 okul, 4907 öğrenci, 178 öğretmen tespit edilmiştir. Tespit edilen bu sayıların 1923-1980 yılları arasında arttığı fakat bu artışın yıllara göre istikrarlı olmadığı anlaşılmıştır. Rize´de meslek eğitimi için 1944 yılında Akşam Kız Sanat Okulu, 1944-1945´te Yapı Usta Okulu ve 1945´te Erkek Sanat Enstitüsü kurulmuştur. 1979-1980 öğretim yılında mesleki ve teknik okulların sayısı 22, öğretmen sayısı 238, öğrenci sayısı da 5760 olmuştur. Rize´de yükseköğretim alanında Tekniker Okulu, Rize Meslek Yüksek Okulu ve Eğitim Enstitüsü açılmıştır.
