Seeing Plevna and Gazi Osman Pasha By The World´s Eye

1877-78 Russian War, also known as "93 War" ended up as a complete disaster for Ottoman Empire. Treaty of Berlin, which was signed after the war, is the formal record of this result. Thus, two fifth of the Empire's territory and one fifth of its population no longer existed. When these losses are taken into account, it can be thought that in terms of Ottomans, there is no concern about the progress of the war to be written or spoken. Nevertheless, the Siege of Plevna makes this thought invalid. Plevna, which was recorded as the only front line where the Ottoman soldiers came out with honour, before everything, has been one of the most distinguished examples of the stories of heroism and resistance which Turkish soldiers set out. Here, as long as 145 days, an incomparable resistance was set out by the command of Gazi Osman Pasha and in a great shortage, towards the Russian, who were superior in number. This resistance fascinated not only Muslim environment, but also all the world surface including the enemy, in a great manner; inspired anthems and folk songs which are the products of this admiration; became the subject of poems and books. Furthermore, it was not out of from the agenda of the world for months. In short, the arisen reflection and admiration were felt all over the world. This works aims to present the size of these reflection and admiration, by some records which have been provided from Premiership Ottoman Archive, in addition to present literature.
