Magnesia ad Maeandrum ve Artemis Leukophryene: Hellenistik Dönem Kraliyet Mektuplarının Katkılarına Bir Bakış
Geçmişi hakkında henüz öğrenmemiz gereken çok şey varsa da, kabul etmek gerekir ki, eskiçağ tarihi açısından hakkında bilgi sahibi olduğumuz antik kentlerden biri de Magnesia ad Maeandrum´dur. Bu kent hakkında bugün bildiklerimizi bazı antik yazarlara, yazıtlara, sikkelere, Menderes Magnesia´sını görmüş olan gezginci yazarlara ve uzun bir geçmişi olan kazılara borçlu bulunmaktayız. Sözü edilen bu çalışmalar, Magnesia ad Maeandrum ile ilgili olarak azımsanmayacak miktarda bilgiye ulaşılmasını sağlamış, özellikle kentteki dinsel inançlar konusunda da önemli bilgiler vererek sosyo-kültürel tarihe ışık tutmuşlardır. Örneğin Magnesia´nın oldukça geniş olan hak ve egemenlik alanında bugüne kadar ele geçirilerek bilim dünyasına tanıtılmış olan epigrafik kaynaklar göstermiştir ki, Tanrıça Artemis kent halkının dinsel inançları arasında çok özel bir yere sahiptir.

Magnesia on the Meander and Artemis Leucophryene: A Review on the Contributions of the Royal Correspondence in the Hellenistic Period
Though there is still much that we have to learn about, it must be admitted that Magnesia on the Meander is one of the ancient cities on which we have a great deal of information. We owe all that we know about this city to some ancient writers, to inscriptions, to coins, to travellers who visited the city and to the archeological excavations which have a long past. Mentioned sources provided an important deal of information which is hard to neglect and shed light on the socio-cultural history by giving significant information especially about religious beliefs in the city. Epigraphical sources which were found in the extremely large territory of Magnesia and were introduced to academia indicated that Goddess Artemis had a very special position in the religious beliefs of people in the city. In other words the goddess was consecrated in the city with the epithet of Artemis Leucophryene and she reminds Artemis of Ephesus in terms of characteristics
