Avrupa´yı Yeniden Keşfetmek Ya Da 1909´da Osmanlı´dan Avusturya-Macaristan´a Yapılan Toplu Bir Seyahat

II. Abdülhamid´in tahttan indirilmesinden sonra Avrupa´yı tanıma ve ilişkileri geliştirme çabaları hızlandı. Avrupa´ya öğrenci gönderme uzun yıllardır yapılıyordu. Bu dönemde yeni politikalar geliştirildi. Gönderilen öğrenci sayısı ile üst düzey yönetici ve memur ziyaretlerinin artırılması, farklı mesleklerden ve farklı toplum kesimlerinden insanların Avrupa´yı ziyaret etmelerinin sağlanması bunlardan bazılarıydı. Avusturya-Macaristan İmparatorluğu´na 1909 güzünde yapılan seyahate 235 kişi katıldı. İçlerinde mebus, belediye başkanı, doktor, tüccar, sanayici, subay gibi değişik mesleklerden insanlar vardı. Geziyi İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti´nin bir nevi yayın organı olan Tanin gazetesi teşvik etmişti. Gazete her Osmanlı vatandaşının mutlaka Avrupa´yı görmesi gerektiğini dile getiriyordu. Çoğunluğu Selanik´ten gelmiş olan bu insanlar Budapeşte, Pressburg (Bratislava), Viyana, Prag ve Trieste gibi önemli şehirleri ziyaret ettiler. Gezi boyunca gittikleri yerlerde törenlerle karşılandılar ve uğurlandılar. Yapılan görüşmelerde dostluk ve kardeşlik vurgusu yapıldı. Şehirlerdeki sanayi kuruluşları, okullar, askeri birlikler ile tarihi ve turistik yerler ziyaret edildi. Gezi süresince çeşitli sosyal, kültürel ortamlara girilerek sanat, eğlence ve toplumsal yapı, şehircilik gibi daha birçok sahaya dair bilgi ve tecrübe birikimi edinildi. Ticari bağlantılar ve dostluklar kuruldu. Çalışma, öncelikle İttihat ve Terakki, Neue Freie Presse, Tanin, Yeni Asır, Yeni Gazete, Yeni Tasviriefkâr gazeteleri ile arşiv kaynakları temelinde ortaya konulmuştur.

Rediscover Europe or A Collective Travel From Ottoman Empire to Austria-Hungarian Empire in 1909

Following the dethroning of Abdulhamid Second, efforts to get to know and develop relations with Europe were accelerated. Students were being sent to Europe for a long time. New policies were developed in this period. The number of visits by senior managers, civil servants and people from different social strata and profession were increased. The number of students to be educated in Europe was also raised. 235 people participated to the visit that was carried out to Austro-Hungarian Empire. There were people from different professions within the group including MPs, mayors, doctors, merchants and officers. The journey was incited by Tanin newspaper that was somehow an organ of İttihat and Terakki Party. The newspaper was voicing "the fact that every Ottoman citizen should definitely see Europe". The delegation whose majority attending the trip from Thessalonica, visited some important cities including Budapest, Pressburg (Bratislava), Vienna, Prague and Trieste. They were welcomed and seen off with ceremonies in places that were visited. Friendship and solidarity were stressed in the meetings that took place in the process. The delegation visited many places such as factories, industrial places, schools and garrisons. They also engaged with social and cultural events and made observations about art, entertainment, social structure and town planning. Business contacts and friendships were established. The article was presented primarily on the basis of the newspapers İttihat ve Terakki, Neue Freie Presse, Tanin, Yeni Asır, Yeni Gazete, Yeni Tasviriefkâr and archive sources.
