Blois ve Chartres Kontu Stephen´in Haçlı Seferlerindeki Rolü ve Etkisi

Birinci Haçlı Seferi´nin önemli liderlerinden biri olan Blois ve Chartres Kontu Stephen´in, eşinin baskıları sonucunda sefere katıldığı ve bu yüzden de pek gayretli bir Haçlı olmadığı kabul edilmektedir. Kaynakların neredeyse tamamında korkak bir kişiliğe sahip olduğu ifade edilen kont, seferin zorlukları karşısında Haçlı yeminini yerine getirmeden Antakya önlerinden ayrılmış; ülkesine döndükten sonra yine eşinin ve toplumun baskıları sonucunda, 1101 yılında düzenlenen Haçlı seferine katılmak zorunda kalmıştır. Anadolu´da Türklerin elinden canını kurtarabilen çok az kişiden biri olan Kont Stephen, Kudüs´e ulaşmayı başararak Haçlı yeminini yerine getirmiştir. Ancak ülkesine dönmek üzere bindiği geminin hava muhalefeti yüzünden geri dönmesiyle Stephen, Fâtımîler ile Haçlılar arasında yaşanan İkinci Remle Savaşı´na katılmak zorunda kalmış ve burada hayatını kaybetmiştir. Bu çalışmada, soylu bir aileye mensup ve daha soylu bir ailenin de damadı olan Kont Stephen´in Haçlı seferlerindeki yeri, önemi ve faaliyetleri incelenmiştir.

It is accepted that Stephen the count of Blois and Chartres, who is one of the prominent leaders in the First Crusade, he joined the expedition as a result of his wife´s pressure and he, thus, was not a very arduous Crusader. The count, who is depicted as coward in nearly all sources, left Antioch by not fulfilling the Crusade vow in the face of the hardship of the expedition; he had to joined the Crusade held in the year 1101 as a result the pressure by his wife and people following his return to the country. The count Stephen, who is one of the few persons saving his life from Turks in Anatolia, fulfilled the Crusade vow by succeeding in reaching to Jerusalem. Yet, as the ship that he got into as to return his home came back because of the bad weather Stephen had to join the Second Battle of Ramla occurred between Fatimids and Crusaders and he lost his life there. In this study, the place, importance and activities of the count Stephen, who is a member of noble family and son-in-law of a more noble family, have been studied.
