On April 24, 1965, Armenians throughout the world held memorial services to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1915 so-called genocide. At the same time, the Armenian diaspora organized a number of simultaneous demonstrations, religious memorials, exhibitions and concerts as well as monuments particularly in Lebanon, the USA, France, Greece and South American countries. Through all of these activities, the Armenian diaspora aimed to put claims about the so-called genocide on the worlds agenda. The Armenian propaganda was mostly based on the image of the Armenian victim victimized by the cruelty of Turks. The events of 1915 and the systematic massacre of Jews in Hitlers Germany during the World War II were considered equal, and it was claimed that the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire inspired Hitler. Turkeys endeavors to counter this propaganda under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs failed and the diaspora activities could not be ended.
