İslâm Coğrafyacılarına Göre Derbend Şehri

Sâsânilerin kuzeyden gelen akınları durdurmak amacıyla bir üs ve set vazifesi görmesi amacıyla Kafkasya´da Hazar Denizi´nin batı kıyısında kurdukları Derbend şehri, Erken Orta Çağ´da stratejik öneminden dolayı bir sınır bölgesi olarak öne çıkmaya başlamıştır. Konumundan dolayı önemi artan şehrin zamanla ekonomik bakımdan da değeri artmıştır. Şehir, kuzeyden ve güneyden gelen çeşitli halklara mensup tacirlerin buluşma noktası olmuş ve bu durum Sâsânî - Hazar Kağanlığı ve devamında ise Arap - Hazar Kağanlığı devletleri devrinde gelişme göstermiştir. Bu arada şehrin köle ticareti bakımından da bir pazar teşkil ettiğini belirtmek gerekir. İşte bu noktaları, Orta Çağ İslâm tarih ve coğrafyacılarının bize bıraktığı malumat ve telif eserler ışığında kronolojik olarak aydınlatmaya çalışacağız. The city of Derbend, founded by the Sassanids on the west coast of the Caspian Sea in the Caucasus to serve as a base and embankment in order to stop the invasions from the north, started to stand out as a border region due to its strategic importance in the Early Middle Ages. The importance of the city due to its location has increased in economic terms over time. The city became the meeting point of merchants belonging to various peoples coming from the north and south, and this situation developed in the era of Sassanid - Khazar Khaganate and later Arab - Khazar Khaganate states. Of course, it should be mentioned that it constitutes a market in terms of slave trade. We will try to illuminate these points chronologically in the light of the Islamic history and geographers of the Middle Ages and modern research.
