I. Dünya Savaşı Yıllarında Çarşamba/Samsun ve Çevresinde Rum Çete Faaliyetleri

I. Dünya Savaşı yıllarında Çarşamba ve çevresinde Rum çetelerinden kaynaklanan önemli bir asayiş sorunu vardı. Bu sorun sebebiyle savaşın son iki yılında bölgedeki devlet otoritesi adeta ortadan kalkmıştır. Trabzon´daki Rus işgal komutanlığı Rum çetelerine her türlü lojistik desteği sağlamıştır. Rum çeteleri 1916-1918 arasındaki dönemde yol kesmiş, Müslüman köylerine baskınlar düzenlemiş, erzak kollarına saldırmış, ambarları yağmalamışlardır. Bölgedeki çetecilik faaliyetleri Milli Mücadele yıllarında daha açık bir biçimde kendini gösterecek olan "Pontusçuluk" çalışmalarına ciddi bir alt yapı oluşturmuştur.

During the World War I years, a serious security problem broke out in the vicinity of Çarşamba due to the Greek military committees. In the last two years of the war, the problem escalated to the worst stage that the state authority in the region was nearly disappeared. The Russian invasion command in Trabzon provided the logistic support for the Greek military committees. From 1916 to 1918, the Greek military committees set road blocks, raided Muslim villages, transported goods, and overrun the food warehouses. The activities of Greek military committees prepared the substructure for the Pontus idea to be realized, which became more apparent during the National War of Liberation.
