Selçukluların Seleflerine Göre Medeniyet Tarihindeki Yeri ve Önemi

Türkler İslâm medeniyetine önceleri bireysel planda katkıda bulunurken, sonraları devlet olarak da İslâm´ı kabul edince dâhil oldukları bu medeniyetin önemli aktörlerinden biri haline gelmişlerdir. Karahanlı ve Gaznelilerden sonra Selçuklular tüm İslâm dünyasını ilgilendiren gelişmelere imza atmışlardır. Halîfeyi Şiî tasallutundan kurtararak eski saygınlığını iade etmiş ve Sünnî İslâm dünyasının siyasî liderliğini de üstlenmişlerdir. Selçuklular, İslâm düşünce tarihinde önem arz eden medreselerin kurumsallaşması gibi işleri başararak Karahanlı ve Gaznelilere göre daha ön plana çıkmışlardır. Açılan medreseler ve buralardan yetişen alimlerle İslâm düşünce tarihinde gelişme sağlanmıştır. Selçuklular, İslâma karşı yöneltilen Bâtınîlik ve Haçlı seferleri gibi tehlikelere karşı da bu medeniyetin lideri olarak onu korumasını da bilmişlerdir.

Turks, who have initially made personal contributions to the Islamic civilisation, have become one of the most important players of this civilisation after accepting Islam as a state religion and joining to this civilisation. This process, which has started by Karahanlis, has continued by other emerging states afterwards. They got along well with the Caliphs and accepted their authorities. While this practice points out to a local characteristic for Karahanlis and Gaznelis, Seljuks not only have contacted with the Caliph but also saved him from Shiat hegemony, helped him to regain his former prestige and assumed the political leadership of Sunni Islamic world. Seljuks have become more prominent than Karahanlirs and Gaznelis by accomplishing the institutionalization of medreses which have played important roles in the history of Islamic thought. They have enabled important developments to take place in the fields of education and thought by the opening of Nizamiye Medereses. Lecturers of these medreses by the help of the hodjas(teachers) such as Cüveynî and Gazâlî have served to the Islamic thought by offering new perspectives in the fields of Kalam. Similarly, restructuring happened in the Islamic Sufism under the influence of Kuşeyrî and Gazâlî. Seljuks, who were the important intellectual actors of Islamic civilization, have managed to save this civilisation in this way as its leader against the threats directed to it such as Batinis and Christian holy wars.
