Chester Projesi´nin Hâkimiyet-i Milliye Gazetesine Yansıması

Sanayi İnkılâbına geçişle birlikte hammadde ve pazar arayışına giren emperyalist devletler XIX yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren Osmanlı Devletinden demiryolu imtiyazı alabilmek için uğraş vermişlerdir. Bu devletler farklı gereksinimler ile demiryolu imtiyazı alma gayreti içine girmiş olmakla beraber Osmanlı topraklarında bulunan zengin petrol yataklarını içine alacak şekilde nüfuz alanlarını genişletmeye çalışmışlardır. XX. yüzyılın başında Chester Projesi ile Amerika da bu devletlere dâhil olmuştur. Bu çalışmada Chester Grubu´nun demiryolu imtiyazını almak için yaptığı girişimler ve sonuçları Hâkimiyet-i Milliye gazetesindeki konu ile ilgili haber ve yazıların da katkısıyla değerlendirilmiştir.

Having been in a search of stocks and markets due to the industrial revolution, the imperialist states have made a bid for obtaining a concession of railway from the Ottoman Empire since the mids of the nineteenth century. As soon as these states have struggled for obtaining the railway concession by a great deal of different requirements, they have tried to enlarge their domains that would contain abundant oil fields on the Ottoman mainland. At the beginning of the twentieth century, America got involved in these states with the project "Chester". İn this study, the attempts of the Chester Group on the obtainment of the railway concession and the results have been evaluated in collaboration with the news and reports about the subject in the newspaper named "Hâkimiyet-i Milliye".
